Birdstep Technology Adds Micro HTTP Server to the Upcoming Release of its Raima Database Manager, RDM Embedded Version 9.0
Seattle (PRWEB) October 26, 2008 -- Birdstep Technology (OSE: BIRD) today announced the upcoming release of version 9.0 of its Raima Database Manager Embedded also known as RDM Embedded. This is the latest release from the Raima Database Management Family providing exciting new capabilities and functionality for embedded systems application developers, and topping the list is a micro HTTP server. General availability of this new version of the popular embedded database is targeted for mid December 2008.
The new micro HTTP server is a fully HTTP 1.1 (RFC2616) compliant Web server designed for threaded and thread-less operating systems and applications. The server can host RAM and disk resident content as well as the pre-integrated RDM Embedded data. The server is engineered for small footprint and resource constraint devices. In addition it is fully extendable, allowing developers to add virtually unlimited functionality to the server. One possible use for this is an application to monitor time interval data points which can dynamically adjust parameters. Take for example a power consumption application that monitors the power usage of a shop floor. When the power consumption level reaches a certain threshold, the application makes adjustments to the machinery parameters, also stored in the database engine, to bring the consumption level back within the acceptable range. If the user wants to override the application by adjusting the power consumption threshold they can easily do so via a remote Web application, possibly running on a handheld device.
Birdstep will be demonstrating the HTTP Server at this week's Embedded Systems Conference in Boston, October 26 - 28 at their booth #1012.
Another new feature in RDM Embedded 9.0 is circular tables which allow developers to define a maximum row count. When the limit is reached, new rows will reuse the previously allocated space. It uses the First in First out (FIFO) concept meaning the oldest record is replaced by the new record. This is useful for applications that contain event logs or statistics where rather than letting the table grow infinitely large or managing the size manually, the size of the table can be handled automatically by the database engine.

About The Raima Database Manager Family
Raima released the first version of the Raima embedded database in 1984. Since then the family has grown into three successful embedded database products. RDM Embedded pioneered the embedded market space under the name dbVista. Building on the success of RDM Embedded, Raima released the product in a client/server configuration under the name Velocis, now called RDM Server. Augmenting the two is RDM Mobile, ideally suited for consumer electronics and low cost mobile devices such as set-top boxes, mp3 players etc. Please find free SDK downloads of the RDM Products at http://www.raima.com/downloads/

Sun Microsystems and GigaSpaces Break 1.3 Million-Messages-Per-Second Benchmark on Sun Server with CoolThreads Technology : New Benchmark in High Pe
Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:JAVA) and GigaSpaces today announced new benchmark performance results that address the scalability needs of capital market customers. In rigorous performance tests, the energy-efficient Sun SPARCĀ® Enterprise T5240 Server processed 1.3 million transactions per second with 60 concurrent clients to achieve an improvement of up to 40 percent over competing multi-threaded platforms. The average throughput per client thread was sustained at about 21,000 transactions per second. When matched against comparable x86 systems, users get up to five times higher performance in half the space and 2.5 times better performance per watt. To take advantage of special offers and promotions for the Sun SPARC T5240 Server, includ ...
